New Dog Park in Hawaii Kai by Mid-Spring
Thursday, November 8th, 2007According to the Honolulu Advertiser, a new dog park will be built on the field between Keahole St. and Kalaniana’ole Highway. This is good news for residents of Hawaii Kai and nearby who own dogs. And let me tell you as a person who has lived there for at least 18 years, there are A LOT of dog owners.
In fact, if you look around the shopping malls around the Hawaii Kai area, there are tons of stores dedicated to pets. At the Koko Marina Center, there is Bark Ave which sells a bunch of dog stuff like collars, leashes, clothes, food, etc. There is also a new doggie day care center that is in process of being moved in. They also have a veternary office there as well. Moving over to the Costco side of Hawaii Kai, they have Pet’s Discount which sells everything for pets, and they also sell puppies as well. Moving over to the shopping mall next to Costco where they have Longs Drugs and Safeway, there is another vet along with another pet store.
All these pet stores and vets show that Hawaii Kai has tons of residents with dogs and other animals. Having said that, this dog park will fit right in. Finally, residents will be able to take their dogs to the park to socialize with other dogs. We do that with out little puppy by the Ala Wai Canal, which isn’t really an official dog park but more of a gathering. And it is important to take your puppy to socialize before they are 6 months old, or else it would be harder for them to socialize with other dogs later in their life.
I’m glad for this addition and I know that it would please many of the dog owners in the Hawaii Kai area.
