Many Opposed to a Target Store Opening in Kailua
Monday, May 10th, 2010
There has been speculation for months now regarding the possible buyout of Don Quijote by popular national chain Target. Many sources – including KITV 4, have been getting word that if everything is agreed upon, Target could take the spot over in August 2010.
Many Kailua Town residents are strongly opposed to the idea, as they seem to think there is no room for something that big in the area. While parking and street space would need to be upgraded in order to support a Target Store in the area, that does not seem to register with Target endorsers.
Most residents of Kailua state that Hawaii already has 2 Targets, why add another one? If Target wants a third store, why don’t they put it in an area that has the proper space?
As of right now the deal looks to be done. While many are hoping something will change, even current Don Quijote managers and employees seem resided to the imminent fact… TARGET IS COMING!
What are your thoughts? Would a Kailua Target be a great idea? Would it be a terrible idea? Holly DAgostino has created a website called, “Stop Target from Opening a Store in Kailua, Hawaii.” The site was built with a petition template that allows you to sign you name in an area that states you are opposed to a Target in Kailua. You can also leave comments.
There are currently 532 signatures on the petition, with a goal of 550. If you want some sort of voice in the matter, this is a great way to say what you feel. Will 550 signatures be enough? Who knows? We will see once August arrives.
