Local weather forecasters have been preparing Oahu residents for rain, rain, rain.  The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flash flood watch for all Hawaiian Islands from Tuesday evening the 10th to late Thursday night the 12th.  Heavy showers and thunderstorms are predicted as a strong upper level front moves in from the north late Tuesday night.  A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.  A warning is more severe and concerning, but so far no flash flood warnings have been forecasted.

Island residents be prepared for wet weather in the next couple of days.  Don’t forget your umbrellas and rain jackets!

Flooding on Oahu

Thursday, December 11th, 2008
Workers Pump Kailua Beach Park It’s safe to say that all of Oahu is underwater right now.  From 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. parts of Oahu saw up to 11.5 inches of rain!  With an average of at least 6 inches.

Power outages plaqued most of the Wai’anae coast and towns up and down the windward coast.  Kailua was pounded with over 10 inches as Kailua Beach Park quickly became underwater and Kaelepulu Stream flooded out to the ocean.  Guess they city doesn’t need help removing sand from the beach today! Kaelepulu Stream Flooded

Two houses on the north shore were moved off their foundation, countless home islandwide were flooded out causing unknown damage at this time.

The rain let up for a while and then started back up this afternoon and continues to wash away parts of the island.  Literally.  Reports from Makaha tell of the Makaha Beach being washed away and flood waters pouring over the road. You literally can’t make out the difference I’m told.

These are the times when knowing rainy day activities on Oahu come in handy.
