Saturday, April 24th, 2010

We didn’t get a press pass in time so we were only able to take photos with our Olympus 1030SW waterproof camera, but they came out pretty good considering the beers were flowing quite well. Jack Johnson, Ziggy Marley, Taj Mahal, Jake Shimabukuro, Anuhea, and Paula Fuga joining the mix.

Prepare For Kokua Festival 2010 This Weekend

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Only 5 days until the 2010 Kokua Festival is upon us.  This weekend, April 23rd, and 24th marks the return of the Jack Johnson’s Kokua Festival from it’s year hiatus as Jack toured the world to compile his DVD/CD combo En Concert.

New to Kokua Fest this year is the shuttle provided by the Kokua Foundation to try and help promote green activities for the two days.  The shuttle has 4 pick-up locations, 2 service the central and west sides at Haleiwa and Waipio while the east side of the island has locations at Laie and Kaneohe.  Tickets for the shuttle are $25 roundtrip or you can purchase a two day pass for $40. Find more information at their website.

For those still looking for tickets to the show we suggest hitting up craigslist where tickets for the lawn are running anywhere from $60 – $100 and reserved seating we’ve seen up to $150.

Again, for the show, Jack will be joined by local artists Anuhea and Jake Shimabukuro, as well as Ziggy Marley and Taj Mahal. This show is surly to be quite musical this year with some amazing talent making the trip out to the Waikiki Shell.

If you’re interested in checking out some of the artists music before the show we suggest heading over to Amazon and picking up an album or two or maybe an MP3 download. You can get Anuhea’s self titled album Anuhea, Jake Shimabukuro’s Hula Girls, any of the many Taj Mahal albums and songs, or one of the best albums Ziggy Marley has put out, Love Is My Religion.

Just to get you ready!

Jack Johnson to Release Another Album

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

For those of you excited (you may need to be from Hawaii) that Jack Johnson’s Kokua Festival is returning after a year hiatus, you’ll be even more excited that Jack and the crew are back at the Mango Tree (studio) creating another album.

Those of you enrolled in Jack Johnson’s emailing list, you just got the word that Jack, Merlo, Adam and Zach are back in the studio recording an album. There’s no word on the release date of the album or no jam session leaks yet but you can rest assured that we’ll be the first to let you know.

Great stuff from the North Shore of Oahu! Let’s hope he releases the album or at least a few songs, right around the time of the Festival.

Kokua Festival to Return in 2010

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

The Kokua Festival with return in 2010. After a two day two show concert in 2008 which saw the likes of Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds perform along side Jack Johnson, Jack and company went on a break. There was no concert in 2009 due to Jack touring and subsequently releasing his CD/DVD combo En Concert.

Well, the much anticipated Kokua Festival will be back on Oahu in 2010. April 23rd and 24th, the festival which benefits Jack Johnson’s Kokua Hawaii Foundation among various other environmental charities, will be back.

Although the concert lineup hasn’t been released yet, they’ll have quite a challenge beating what they’ve done in the past. We’ll let you know when they release the lineup and when tickets go on sale and where you can get them. Check back in our Kokua Festival section.

Furlough Fridays Start Today

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

You may have noticed the low volume of traffic today on the roads. For some running late it was a welcome relief. For others, namely those off the roads, it means less money, and in these economic times not good at all. But there is something more important going on.

Its the first of 17 furlough fridays for Hawaii state teachers, and more importantly our students started today. More than 13,000 teachers aren’t working today, and more than 170,000 public school students are without educational instruction as well.

Hundreds, possibly thousands of people are expected to head to the state capital today in Honolulu from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to protest the furlough days. Even Jack Johnson will be there to help with the cause and try and change the policy that has caused our students to have even less education during the course of this year. He was asked to speak publicly at the event being that he’s a strong proponent of youth education but instead he has chosen to play a few songs for the crowd that gathers.

Hopefully this can get resolved and they can at least have the furlough days on non-instructional days.
