“LOST” Gets Lost at the Emmys

Monday, August 30th, 2010

LOST Hawaii EmmysOne of the most acclaimed shows in history failed to make much of an impression with the Emmy voters this year. Even though it was nominated in a dozen categories, the show could only secure 1 prize by the time all was said and done. Losts’ sole win was for outstanding single-camera picture editing for a drama series, and that was announced last week.

Many of the show’s most recognizable faces were nominated in acting categories, and the show was also nominated for best drama. It was shut-out in all of those categories. While the Emmy’s usually tend to give the award to the same people every year, you would be hard pressed to find a performance from an actor better than what Terry O’Quinn and Mathew Fox put forth this past year. Be that as it may, the voters though otherwise.

Michael Emerson was also nominated, as was Elizabeth Mitchell. Don’t feel too bad for Lost though, as it did manage to win 10 Emmys during its six-season run, including Best Drama Series in 2005.

Lost Auction HawaiiSouvenirs and props from one of the most imaginative shows ever created will be auctioned off to the highest bidder this Saturday and Sunday – August 21st and 22nd, starting at 10AM Hawaii Time.

There will be almost everything imaginable from LOST that was used in the show’s six seasons on the air. From little trinkets like Dharma labeled memorabilia, to big items like the baby-blue VW Dharma vans, Locke’s coffin, wreckage of the Oceanic Flight 815, weathered costumes, battered luggage and much more. If you want a piece of LOST history, then this is definitely the place to be.  Check out this official LOST Auction PDF for everything that will be there.
The LOST collection – which is currently stored in a Kalihi Warehouse and a California hangar, is expected to make more than $1 million. If you think you won’t have a chance at anything, think again. There’s a mountain of memorabilia for sale, and the Kalihi warehouse is packed with great items of every size and from every season. There are nearly 200 boxes, including 66 cardboard containers of costumes. The man hired to oversee the collection for the auction house was quoted as saying “the whole collection is a bit overwhelming.”

Although the auction will take place in Santa Monica, it will be broadcast in a live feed to a room at the Sheraton Waikiki where Hawaii fans can make their bids, Maddalena said. The event is free to attend. If you are a LOST fan, or want to try your hand at grabbing some memorabilia, then don’t miss your one opportunity to do so.

Hawaii Five-0 Gets Premiere Date

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

One of the most anticipated television show remakes in recent memory has finally gotten a premiere date, as well as a night and timeslot assigned to it. The remake of the classic – and beloved Hawaii Five-0, CBS cop show will have its premiere on network television on September 20th. From then on, it will continue to air on Monday’s at 9pm.

The actual pilot for the show was filmed all the way back in March, then show executives waited to see if CBS would pick the show up. Other original episodes for season one began shooting July 15th, just a few days ago. Many of the stars flew in right away to begin production. Daniel Dae Kim – who is of Lost fame, was already here with his family.

The state of Hawaii is hoping that the show will do well, as it means money for the local economy. While the show is not expected to do what Lost did – at least not right away, the producers of the remake are very optimistic, as they believe they have a great show on their hands. Ironically, the September 20th premiere will mark the anniversary date that the original Hawaii Five-0 premiered back in 1968. If it has half of the impact that the original show did, then the show will be successful.

ABC to Start Filming Another Show Off the Map in Hawaii

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

ABC announced yesterday that it would film another new prime time show in Hawaii; this gives the state two network television series at the same time. The new show titled “Off the Map” – which is a medical drama created by the same team that brought us Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, will begin shooting around the same time as the CBS remake of Hawaii Five-0.

This decision by ABC comes less than a month after the series finale of Lost, which was filmed in Hawaii for 6 years. ABC is looking to capitalize on what they did with Lost here in the islands. If they can have any type of success with Off the Map, then more and more studios will be looking to film here. As it stands there are currently over a dozen Hollywood movie productions are filming, and if things keep going the way they are going, Hawaii could start to become more of a player in the Hollywood industry.

While this may not seem important to many of you, realize this. 2/3 of all the money that is made from a television show production stays in Hawaii. Lost brought over $400 million in revenue to the state in its 6-year run. We should all hope that both CBS and ABC have hits in the making on their hands, as it means more money for our economy.

Out with LOST In with Hawaii Five-O

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

With the series finale of the wildly popular television show “Lost” airing this Sunday, Hawaii will lose one of its most recognizable and profitable – Lost contributed hundreds of jobs to Hawaii and brought over $400 million in revenue to the state during its six-year run, entities.

Following in the footsteps of ABC Television, CBS Television has green-lit the updated version of “Hawaii Five-O, which will also be filmed here locally. While there is no timetable or confirmed number of episodes committed to by CBS, the fact remains that CBS will spend between $2 – $2.5 million per episode – with around two-thirds of that money staying within the local economy.

*Filming will begin locally in July.

The original “Hawaii Five-O ran from 1968-1980 and was one of televisions most popular – and most watched shows. The updated version will need to be more than a “critical darling” to stay on-air. CBS will be looking for around 10 million viewers per week to justify keeping the show on the air long-term.

While “Lost” had its ups and downs – it always drew viewers and is hugely popular on DVD and iTunes. The last two seasons of “Lost” have drawn northward of 13 million viewers per week. While “Hawaii Five-O” will not need to draw this much attention – at least at first, it will have to be well written and loved to justify continual airing.

Everyone should be rooting for the show to be a success, as it will bring hundreds of local job openings to the state, and generate much-needed revenue. The $400 million that “Lost” brought in may be asking a lot, but if the new “Hawaii Five-O” can catch-on, then Hawaii will remain visible and relevant in worldwide media.

Fan of ABC’s Lost? Audition for a Part!

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Those of you who are big fans of ABC’s Lost will have a chance to get a part on the show, since the producers are looking for local talent to fill in some spots on the show.  If interested, make sure you head over to Ala Wai Elementary (next to Iolani High School) on Saturday for an open call for interested actors.  They don’t require anything, and everyone is open to try-out.

There is no experience needed, and all ages and ethnic backgrounds are welcome to attend.  So how much will you be compensated if you get the part?  They will pay you $759 a day for your part in the show.  That’s good money, plus you get some sort of national exposure.

So again, make sure you head down tomorrow to audition for Lost and maybe have an opportunity to star in ABC’s hottest show!

Daniel Dae Kim of “Lost” Arrested For DUI

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Jin-Soo Kwon in the extremely popular “Lost” television series was arrested early this morning on drunken driving charges.  He was arrested at 3am and booked at the Honolulu Police station downtown, but posted bail at 5:05 am according to the Honolulu Advertiser.

He was later escorted by police officers and taken to a silver SUV that drove him away.  Wow, are all Lost characters driving drunk or something?  We already heard the news on Michelle Rodriguez as well as Cynthia Watros, and now Daniel Dae Kim.  Mr. Eko, or Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, was also arrested in 2006 for driving without a license and disobeying a police officer.  All three were let go from the show, so hopefully this does not affect Daniel’s career as well.

In a way, I’m glad that some television stars are treated the same as the rest of us, giving them no real preferential treatment.  Although there are many stars who get only a slap on the wrist, at least the Honolulu police seem to not care too much of who you are, and uphold the law.  I know this doesn’t speak for the entire Honolulu police, but at least some of them are there to uphold the law.

But with Daniel’s popularity on the series, we’ll just have to wait and see if he’ll get axed in a later episode.  For fans, this can’t be a good thing.
